![]() Living On The Edge: Growing to the End of Life Molly Folken, central Florida ADEC charter member and long time editor of The Connections is the brand new author of the book Living on the Edge: Growing to the End of Life. Published by PublishAmerica, Inc (ISBN: 1-4137-5097-4). We are aging from the moment we are born but often it isn't until our 50s or 60s when the wrinkles start to appear, and a health crisis develops that we suddenly think, "I'm getting old!" Even as modern technology keeps us living longer and in better condition than our parents at this age, the losses of life accumulate. Living becomes more stressful as we cope with medications, tests, waning strength and other aging changes.
Living on the Edge: Growing to the End of Life looks at one woman's perception of life as a senior citizen; its fears and problems, its joys and spiritual rewards. Ways to ease caregiving stresses are detailed and the trauma of watching a loved one fade away is discussed. The steps of practical and emotional preparation for death are outlined as is the process of grieving for each loss as it comes and then moving on to a meaningful life. Readers will relate to the author's experiences and discover ways to alleviate their own difficult situations through the ideas presented. Pet Loss - By Mary Harvey
The Loss of a pet can be one of the most devastating experiences that an individual or family has to face. When a beloved pet companion dies the feelings experienced can be intense and painful. For many this is a loss of not only a pet but of a best friend. Companionship and love are replaced by grief, sorrow and loneliness.
Grieving for a beloved pet is a very natural, normal and personal process. Adjusting to the grief is not an easy process. When one has difficulty accepting a pet's loss and is struggling to adjust to feelings of grief and sorrow, they may want to discuss their feelings with a person who is experienced in understanding the grieving process. A caring support group or individual counseling can offer a safe environment for the sharing of feelings and learning about healthy strategies for facing difficult issues. The therapeutic process establishes a collaborative relationship between the client and the therapist. The client can then begin to explore thoughts and feelings about the loss of their animal companion and how their life has changed. | ||||||||||
